The Honda Civic has proved to be one of Honda's greatest compact vehicles. Consumers are anticipating the release date of the 2014 Honda Civic, as information about the new model has been in short supply. Where other car manufacturers tend to tease the consumers with little pieces of their new models, Honda prefers to keep quiet.Doing so won't be easy. In June, KBB named the 2013 Honda Civic the sixth best sedan under $25,000. The Corolla did not make the top ten.The Honda Civic took a rare stumble in the 2012 model year. A redesign cheapened its interior, left it looking less cohesive than ever, and watered down the appeal of its typically perky powertrains and front-drive handling. At the same time, the competition grew more sophisticated and feature-rich.
The cabin carries over from the standard model but it now boasts class-leading interior room and the ability to hold up to 1668 liters (58.9 cubic feet) of luggage. The wagon has also been equipped with rear "Magic Seats" that fold down in one easy motion. There are two engine options. The 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel, which emits only 94g/km of CO2 in the hatch, will be available with a manual box, while the 1.8-litre petrol will come with a manual or automatic transmissions.Consumers probably wouldn't be upset to see a larger engine. Last year the 1.8-liter 16-valve engine produced 140-horsepower, which for a compact car is still pretty impressive. Even more impressive were the fuel ratings of 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.
Honda has more space than its predecessor, adds a more modern interior and has better fuel efficiency. The car remains more of an improvement for those who will only drive a Toyota than a real Civic- or Forte-challenger, even with those neat LED headlights and a well-tuned CVT.Much of the lineup continues with the 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, paired with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Si models get a more muscly 201-hp, 2.4-liter four, and Civic Hybrid models will be back with their IMA mild-hybrid system that provides EPA ratings of 44 mpg, city and highway.Honda will open order books in December, with first deliveries in February. Trim levels are set to be shared with the hatch, and while prices and specs will be confirmed at Frankfurt, the brand did tell us to expect a similar price difference to rivals.
